Narrative:

Landing gear written up by me going into bur due failure to retract on first gear up operation in sjc. Maintenance delay of 30 mins in bur to replace landing gear valve in hydraulic bay. Aircraft sighted off by maintenance and a thorough walk-around accomplished separately by myself and first officer. On my walk-around I was accompanied by maintenance personnel to verify gear pins removed and in the flight deck pin stowage compartment. After takeoff, landing gear failed to retract. Gear indicators remained in green. Climbed. Aircraft to 4000' and requested diversion to lax. Notified bur and lax operations of diversion. No emergency was declared and we landed in lax west/O incident. Reason to go to lax was longer runways in case flaps became inoperative.
