Narrative:
I have noticed several stations struggling with this issue. On this flight I stationed a flight attendant at the jetway to watch for little kids. The gap was about 10 inches. A perfect catastrophe for a little child walking. My first officer got a mechanic to come up and reposition the jetbridge. Evidently the problem is the sensors on the bumper are set too sensitive and turn off the movement to prevent damaging the plane with a dent. The gate agent does their job; walks away and doesn't realize there is a dangerous gap. It happens too often and now with so many young families traveling it's only a matter of time before a child gets seriously hurt or killed from this known danger.
