Narrative:
After departing vny on the ADAMM2 departure from RW16R; the procedure calls for pilots to remain below 1700 feet and commence the turn to 113 degrees after the 2.2 DME from the vny VOR. The copilot was flying; and was still trying to get comfortable with the aircraft. After takeoff; the copilot left the throttle setting too high for too long; resulting in difficulty meeting the 1700 foot speed restriction while also preventing excessive speeds and control force. Preoccupied with meeting the crossing restriction; the copilot and myself were slow to continue to turn to 113 degrees and continue climb after the 2.2 DME mark. We received a terrain warning. No traffic separation issues occurred; and ATC did not reach out to us about any issues.vny departures off of 16R can be challenging departures; especially when working with less experienced pilots. I plan to more thoroughly brief with other pilots the departure procedure to be completed; and the flying techniques to be used; and not just the altitude and speed restrictions.
