Narrative:
Cruising at FL300; our flight attendants reported an electrical burning smell in the cabin. I asked for a more exact location of the smell and told them to keep me updated. Less than one minute later; they said the smell was getting stronger and passengers were concerned. I again told them to keep me updated. There was no smell in the flight deck. Again; one minute later we received four chimes from the flight attendant and were informed that there was a fire in the overhead bin and that she was grabbing the fire extinguisher. I told her to call me back after she deals with the fire and we would begin our descent. We [advised ATC] at that time and began our checklist items. After our oxygen masks were donned; the flight attendant called again and said there was no fire and that the electrical smell had subsided. We then informed ATC of the situation and had a normal landing in ZZZ.
