Narrative:
After departure for routine pattern touch and go's, the engine made a loud pop followed by smoke, and gradual loss of power. Altitude was approximately 850' on upwind leg when decision was made to execute a 180 degree turn to land on runway 25. Due to multiple traffic in vicinity of pattern and departing traffic rolling down the runway, the decision was made to land on taxiway B. Shutdown procedures were initiated and safe landing performed. No injuries to persons. Damage to aircraft, 1 blown cylinder.
