Narrative:
After landing on runway 16R at sea-tac and exiting on the last high speed taxiway, I began thumbing through my approach charts for the airport diagram, as I am not familiar with the sea-tac airport. At the same time my first officer was calling ground control because we had not received any instructions from the tower after landing. Ground control's reply to my first officer's call of 'with you to gate C-12' was 'where are you?' I looked up at that time to see the hold short lights for runway 16L just disappearing under the nose. I stopped quickly, but not fast enough to avoid going beyond the lights. Our distance from runway 16L was still in excess of 150'. Ground control then cleared us to the gate with the request that in the future we stay on the tower frequency until clear of the runway 'environment'. Contributing factors were: lack of instructions from the tower after landing. My looking for the airport diagram, and a dark rainy night coupled with lots of glare from the terminal lights to make taxiway and runway lights very difficult to see.

Title: LAND RWY 16R AND FAILED TO HOLD AT THE 'HOLD LINE' FOR CLRNC TO CROSS RWY 16L.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 16R AT SEA-TAC AND EXITING ON THE LAST HIGH SPD TXWY, I BEGAN THUMBING THROUGH MY APCH CHARTS FOR THE ARPT DIAGRAM, AS I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE SEA-TAC ARPT. AT THE SAME TIME MY F/O WAS CALLING GND CTL BECAUSE WE HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE TWR AFTER LNDG. GND CTL'S REPLY TO MY F/O'S CALL OF 'WITH YOU TO GATE C-12' WAS 'WHERE ARE YOU?' I LOOKED UP AT THAT TIME TO SEE THE HOLD SHORT LIGHTS FOR RWY 16L JUST DISAPPEARING UNDER THE NOSE. I STOPPED QUICKLY, BUT NOT FAST ENOUGH TO AVOID GOING BEYOND THE LIGHTS. OUR DISTANCE FROM RWY 16L WAS STILL IN EXCESS OF 150'. GND CTL THEN CLRED US TO THE GATE WITH THE REQUEST THAT IN THE FUTURE WE STAY ON THE TWR FREQ UNTIL CLR OF THE RWY 'ENVIRONMENT'. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE: LACK OF INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE TWR AFTER LNDG. MY LOOKING FOR THE ARPT DIAGRAM, AND A DARK RAINY NIGHT COUPLED WITH LOTS OF GLARE FROM THE TERMINAL LIGHTS TO MAKE TXWY AND RWY LIGHTS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE.
