Narrative:

Descent clearance was received to: 'cross 75 southwest of lgc VOR at or below 290 to maintain FL240.' copilot began descent in ample time to make crossing restriction, but apparently was descending too slowly. When I saw that he was going to miss it west/O maximum effort, I commanded, 'pull the speed brake and dive!' he halfheartedly did so and crossed the 75 mi fix at 29800'. Since I had stressed the vital importance of making crossing instructions in my original preflight briefing, I royally chewed him out. He replied that he hadn't missed it by very much and did not think that it was that critical. As captain, I should have monitored the descent more carefully, and should have physically taken control of the aircraft myself to assure compliance with our ATC clearance.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG MISSED CROSSING RESTRICTION.

Narrative: DSNT CLRNC WAS RECEIVED TO: 'CROSS 75 SW OF LGC VOR AT OR BELOW 290 TO MAINTAIN FL240.' COPLT BEGAN DSNT IN AMPLE TIME TO MAKE XING RESTRICTION, BUT APPARENTLY WAS DSNDING TOO SLOWLY. WHEN I SAW THAT HE WAS GOING TO MISS IT W/O MAX EFFORT, I COMMANDED, 'PULL THE SPD BRAKE AND DIVE!' HE HALFHEARTEDLY DID SO AND CROSSED THE 75 MI FIX AT 29800'. SINCE I HAD STRESSED THE VITAL IMPORTANCE OF MAKING XING INSTRUCTIONS IN MY ORIGINAL PREFLT BRIEFING, I ROYALLY CHEWED HIM OUT. HE REPLIED THAT HE HADN'T MISSED IT BY VERY MUCH AND DID NOT THINK THAT IT WAS THAT CRITICAL. AS CAPT, I SHOULD HAVE MONITORED THE DSNT MORE CAREFULLY, AND SHOULD HAVE PHYSICALLY TAKEN CTL OF THE ACFT MYSELF TO ASSURE COMPLIANCE WITH OUR ATC CLRNC.
