Narrative:
We departed ric bound for pit. Gross takeoff weight was 19837 pounds. Arriving in the pit area we preformed our prelndg check and realized we were about 500 pounds above our maximum landing weight of 14000 pounds. Since time is very important to our passengers and fuel is very costly, I made the decision to land at the heavier weight. Upon arriving at the gate, I talked with maintenance after the required logbook entry. As it turned out our landing maximum had been exceeded by only 237 pounds. I believe the reason for this was the tankering of fuel, higher tail winds or light winds, almost direct route from atl and our efforts to save fuel. All company policies and procedures were followed and all FARS adhered to. At no time was the safety or the integrity of the flight compromised.
