Narrative:
F/a stated there was a 'bang' followed by smoke in the forward galley. Cockpit crew immediately turned off galley power and received clearance to FL240 and direct to atl. We could smell electrical odor and went on oxy. F/as fought the fire with fire bottles successfully. Flight was cleared direct to atl and so proceeded since fire was out and cabin was secure. Fire turned out to be the heater unit in the coffee maker. ATC excellent in expeditious handling.
