Narrative:
Arriving on the FRENCH3 arrival we were assigned runway 34R. The FMC was programmed in anticipation of being assigned RNAV rnp Z 34R. We asked ATC if we should expect the RNAV arrival and were told possibly. Somewhere around archy we were told it would be a visual arrival. The first officer went into the FMC to renter the FRENCH3 arrival without the RNAV transition in order to extend the full arrival out. In reprogramming the FMC he made an entry error which I did not catch prior to execution which caused a loss of lateral path. The first officer began correcting the FMC; I placed the MCP in heading select as we turned at babaa; but did not add enough wind correction and we drifted wide east of course. The FMC was reprogrammed and course correction was made by himom.
