Narrative:

I was working D-24 when I observed medium large transport X flash his altitude because we didn't have one at the time. I previously took a point out on medium large transport Y and informed the previous radar controller of it. When I saw altitudes on the aircraft it appeared they were laterally separated. I believe if the automation would have been able to display the altitudes at all times and conflict alert could project the flight plan path along with actual path this occurrence would never have happened.
