Narrative:
Briefed auto throttle off visual approach into runway 19R at mci for hand flying proficiency practice. Was vectored behind an MD11. Configured early to increase separation with the MD11. Was stable at 1000 ft. And 500 ft. Below 500 ft.; airspeed increased to plus 10 knots. Made a minor bracketing correction with throttles. Around 100 ft.; looked inside to check airspeed; was on speed; and noticed [we were] picking up a major descent rate. Looked out and saw aircraft in a high descent rate at flare height. Added power; but it was not enough or in time to stop the descent rate which I am certain was caused by wake turbulence from the MD11. Aircraft hit hard but did not bounce to my knowledge. Roll out was controlled and normal. On taxi in; aircraft printed a maintenance report of unknown origin. Upon reaching gate; immediately contacted dispatch and was conferenced with maintenance to see what the maintenance ramifications of the landing were. Maintenance was unsure of the code at the time so I did as they suggested and entered the code into the logbook and was told they were calling contract maintenance to inspect. [I] performed a post flight inspection and reported no damage.
