Narrative:
During preparations for pushback, checklist procedure stopped at 'door lights'. Captain advised ground/pushback crew we had 'equipment' door light. We could hear noises under cockpit which sounded like equipment compartment door being opened and closed. 'Equipment' door light extinguished and pushback/engine start/taxi accomplished. After takeoff clearance we started takeoff roll. At approximately 100 KTS, loud roaring sound started. No engine/system malfunctions noted. No caution or warning lights noted. After rotation noise increased significantly. Captain observed cabin would not pressurize, elected to return to lax. Upon arrival at gate, ground crew advised radar access door open. Still no light indication on 'door light annunciator' panel. Maintenance technician came on board and advised that radar access door is not equipped with switches or hardware to indicate to cockpit crew if door is open. All doors checked closed and flight departed. Normal operation to destination. (Note: chief pilots office researched maintenance specifications and found that radar access door is wired into door annunciator system).
