Narrative:
Had left mli approximately sf:00 tue to ash with 4 persons aboard. Turn around slow due to refueling. Made a stop at cle for fuel and proceeded to mli. Approximately bdf called chi center to cancel IFR. No contact. Tried again geneseo city and one more before landing mli quad city. Time landed, xa:00 wed. We heard someone on runway 27 and heard them leave runway 27 as we announced approach. We taxied to hangar very cold (wind chill factor). Phone booth is about 1/2 mi away. Started car to warm up. Put plane in hangar and closed door. Airport security car came to hangar and said (chi) center told him to check us out. We had not cancelled IFR flight plan. We were going to phone booth to call KKK FSS to cancel with them for relay but never got the chance. We were not on ground 20 mins. Security said he was doing a runway check of 27 and it was he we heard leaving the runway. He said I'll have to get your names and addresses which we pilots gave him. We both agreed (pilots) 14 hours of flying was too much and may have caused high degree of fatigue. We never did hear a frequency change after jot and maybe were too fatigued to realize that something had not happened that should have. I strongly suggest no 14 hour flts even with 2 pilots. We had lost our DME capability and autoplt and had many route changes of long distances. The landing was not one to be proud of. Fatigue!

Title: SMA LOSES CONTACT WITH ARTCC, FAILS TO CANCEL IFR AND THEN IS SLOW TO PHONE ATC WITH HIS ARRIVAL TIME TO PRECLUDE A SEARCH AND RESCUE.
Narrative: HAD L MLI APPROX SF:00 TUE TO ASH WITH 4 PERSONS ABOARD. TURN AROUND SLOW DUE TO REFUELING. MADE A STOP AT CLE FOR FUEL AND PROCEEDED TO MLI. APPROX BDF CALLED CHI CTR TO CANCEL IFR. NO CONTACT. TRIED AGAIN GENESEO CITY AND ONE MORE BEFORE LNDG MLI QUAD CITY. TIME LANDED, XA:00 WED. WE HEARD SOMEONE ON RWY 27 AND HEARD THEM LEAVE RWY 27 AS WE ANNOUNCED APCH. WE TAXIED TO HANGAR VERY COLD (WIND CHILL FACTOR). PHONE BOOTH IS ABOUT 1/2 MI AWAY. STARTED CAR TO WARM UP. PUT PLANE IN HANGAR AND CLOSED DOOR. ARPT SECURITY CAR CAME TO HANGAR AND SAID (CHI) CTR TOLD HIM TO CHK US OUT. WE HAD NOT CANCELLED IFR FLT PLAN. WE WERE GOING TO PHONE BOOTH TO CALL KKK FSS TO CANCEL WITH THEM FOR RELAY BUT NEVER GOT THE CHANCE. WE WERE NOT ON GND 20 MINS. SECURITY SAID HE WAS DOING A RWY CHK OF 27 AND IT WAS HE WE HEARD LEAVING THE RWY. HE SAID I'LL HAVE TO GET YOUR NAMES AND ADDRESSES WHICH WE PLTS GAVE HIM. WE BOTH AGREED (PLTS) 14 HRS OF FLYING WAS TOO MUCH AND MAY HAVE CAUSED HIGH DEG OF FATIGUE. WE NEVER DID HEAR A FREQ CHANGE AFTER JOT AND MAYBE WERE TOO FATIGUED TO REALIZE THAT SOMETHING HAD NOT HAPPENED THAT SHOULD HAVE. I STRONGLY SUGGEST NO 14 HR FLTS EVEN WITH 2 PLTS. WE HAD LOST OUR DME CAPABILITY AND AUTOPLT AND HAD MANY RTE CHANGES OF LONG DISTANCES. THE LNDG WAS NOT ONE TO BE PROUD OF. FATIGUE!
