Narrative:

I landed visually on the numbers runway 21L at ZZZ. I could've easily made taxiway D; but was instructed by a rushed tower controller to take taxiway B. I sped up to make B so I could get off of the runway as quickly as I could. I then reduced my power to idle and used the brakes to slow down; however; I had overshot the taxiway slightly and tried to make a hard turn to make it onto taxiway B. I brought the airplane nearly to a stop at the runway 21L and taxiway B intersection and tried to make my turn as sharp as I could. Unfortunately; my left wheel went off of the taxiway into the dirt for 4 seconds before I got the plane completely turned and completely on the taxiway. Some contributing factors that led to this occurrence are the controllers work load. It wasn't as busy as it could've been; but the tower was dealing with another aircraft that was struggling with their calls and read backs. It seemed my instruction for taxiway B came later than it should have; because I had brought the airplane to an appropriate speed to make taxiway D when I received further instructions for taxiway B. Next time; I will not try to make a taxiway that I cannot make. I am PIC; and I should always do what is safe and never be rushed off a runway or do anything that is unsafe no matter what. I will simply ask the tower for a more appropriate taxiway.
