Narrative:
We were cleared into position and hold 17R at dfw. While turning through heading 130 degrees, observed a twin engine aircraft small transport pass overhead at approximately 100' AGL and continue down 17R. Aircraft had been cleared to land 17L ILS. At approximately 3000' down 17R at 25-50' AGL, pilot of small transport asked to land 17R and was told to go around by dfw tower. We informed tower after the go around that the aircraft had passed overhead our position on the runway. If the small transport had hit our vertical fin, the result would have been disastrous. The tower should have seen this problem developing on radar.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW OF SMT ACR CLEARED TO LAND 17L DESCENDING OUT OF 200' CEILING PASSED OVERHEAD OF LGT HOLDING IN POSITION ON 17R.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD 17R AT DFW. WHILE TURNING THROUGH HDG 130 DEGS, OBSERVED A TWIN ENG ACFT SMT PASS OVERHEAD AT APPROX 100' AGL AND CONTINUE DOWN 17R. ACFT HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND 17L ILS. AT APPROX 3000' DOWN 17R AT 25-50' AGL, PLT OF SMT ASKED TO LAND 17R AND WAS TOLD TO GO AROUND BY DFW TWR. WE INFORMED TWR AFTER THE GAR THAT THE ACFT HAD PASSED OVERHEAD OUR POS ON THE RWY. IF THE SMT HAD HIT OUR VERT FIN, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. THE TWR SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS PROB DEVELOPING ON RADAR.
