Narrative:
During an IFR flight from bdl to bna we had been cleared direct to crw shortly thereafter we were handed off to my center on 132.32. My copilot checked on at 14000 and the controller acknowledged and gave us a nearby altimeter setting (harrisburg). At this time we were about 50 mi northeast of psb and approximately 220 mi out of crw. The controller seemed busy but after our initial contact we never heard from him again. After a while I became suspicious and at 120 mi out of crw I called center and asked if he was going to turn us over to cleveland or washington center. On his reply he acted as if he had no idea of who we were or where we were. After giving him our position he handed us over to a washington controller who still didn't know who or where we were. Finally he handed us off to a second washington controller who had us in radar contact. After looking at the lo altitude chart for that area I realized the ny center controller had forgotten us and we had flown out of his airspace through cleveland's and into washington's. This concerned me because we were supposed to be under their control yet none of the controllers, except possibly cleveland, knew who we were, and we were never handed off to cleveland. With the nice WX conditions, I didn't really see a safety hazard and I'm not sure how IFR aircraft are tracked through the airspace by the different ctrs. But, it was obvious to me that a better way of keeping up with aircraft IFR in controled airspace or better coordination between ATC facs needs to be addressed. I would hate to go into a high density area in WX if ATC didn't know exactly who everyone was, where they were, and were communicating with them.

Title: CORP FLT CREW NOT HANDED OFF BY CENTER. FLIES THROUGH TWO CENTERS AIRSPACE BEFORE MAKING CONTACT.
Narrative: DURING AN IFR FLT FROM BDL TO BNA WE HAD BEEN CLRED DIRECT TO CRW SHORTLY THEREAFTER WE WERE HANDED OFF TO MY CTR ON 132.32. MY COPLT CHKED ON AT 14000 AND THE CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED AND GAVE US A NEARBY ALTIMETER SETTING (HARRISBURG). AT THIS TIME WE WERE ABOUT 50 MI NE OF PSB AND APPROX 220 MI OUT OF CRW. AFTER A WHILE I BECAME SUSPICIOUS AND AT 120 MI OUT OF CRW I CALLED CTR AND ASKED IF HE WAS GOING TO TURN US OVER TO CLEVELAND OR WASHINGTON CTR. ON HIS REPLY HE ACTED AS IF HE HAD NO IDEA OF WHO WE WERE OR WHERE WE WERE. AFTER GIVING HIM OUR POS HE HANDED US OVER TO A WASHINGTON CTLR WHO STILL DIDN'T KNOW WHO OR WHERE WE WERE. FINALLY HE HANDED US OFF TO A SEC WASHINGTON CTLR WHO HAD US IN RADAR CONTACT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE LO ALT CHART FOR THAT AREA I REALIZED THE NY CTR CTLR HAD FORGOTTEN US AND WE HAD FLOWN OUT OF HIS AIRSPACE THROUGH CLEVELAND'S AND INTO WASHINGTON'S. THIS CONCERNED ME BECAUSE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE UNDER THEIR CTL YET NONE OF THE CTLRS, EXCEPT POSSIBLY CLEVELAND, KNEW WHO WE WERE, AND WE WERE NEVER HANDED OFF TO CLEVELAND. WITH THE NICE WX CONDITIONS, I DIDN'T REALLY SEE A SAFETY HAZARD AND I'M NOT SURE HOW IFR ACFT ARE TRACKED THROUGH THE AIRSPACE BY THE DIFFERENT CTRS. BUT, IT WAS OBVIOUS TO ME THAT A BETTER WAY OF KEEPING UP WITH ACFT IFR IN CTLED AIRSPACE OR BETTER COORDINATION BTWN ATC FACS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. I WOULD HATE TO GO INTO A HIGH DENSITY AREA IN WX IF ATC DIDN'T KNOW EXACTLY WHO EVERYONE WAS, WHERE THEY WERE, AND WERE COMMUNICATING WITH THEM.
