Narrative:
After being given an intercept of more than 90 degrees (120 degrees--not a heading, a left) for the ILS approach, we were cleared for the approach to runway 27L cvg. Our altitude was 5000-6000' with an intercept altitude on the approach of 2500'. The controller's vector put us through the localizer and having to descend down on top of the G/south. At this time we were asked to maintain 170 KIAS. In my judgement, a slower speed would be needed to facilitate completing a successful approach. The controller became busy at this time, and so we waited for the most opportune moment to advise. Seemingly as soon as the controller's time permitted, he asked us to verify our speed. We informed him that we were on speed for the approach and apologized for being unable to comply with his instructions.

Title: CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS TO INTERCEPT THE ILS APCH COURSE TOOK THE PLT THROUGH THE FINAL APCH COURSE AND ABOVE THE ILS INTERCEPT ALT OF 2500'.
Narrative: AFTER BEING GIVEN AN INTERCEPT OF MORE THAN 90 DEGS (120 DEGS--NOT A HDG, A LEFT) FOR THE ILS APCH, WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH TO RWY 27L CVG. OUR ALT WAS 5000-6000' WITH AN INTERCEPT ALT ON THE APCH OF 2500'. THE CTLR'S VECTOR PUT US THROUGH THE LOC AND HAVING TO DSND DOWN ON TOP OF THE G/S. AT THIS TIME WE WERE ASKED TO MAINTAIN 170 KIAS. IN MY JUDGEMENT, A SLOWER SPD WOULD BE NEEDED TO FACILITATE COMPLETING A SUCCESSFUL APCH. THE CTLR BECAME BUSY AT THIS TIME, AND SO WE WAITED FOR THE MOST OPPORTUNE MOMENT TO ADVISE. SEEMINGLY AS SOON AS THE CTLR'S TIME PERMITTED, HE ASKED US TO VERIFY OUR SPD. WE INFORMED HIM THAT WE WERE ON SPD FOR THE APCH AND APOLOGIZED FOR BEING UNABLE TO COMPLY WITH HIS INSTRUCTIONS.
