Narrative:
I was PF and PIC. We were on an assigned heading, a right base for a visibility to 24R at day. Company traffic was on the localizer for 24L. He had us in sight, but we didn't have him. ATC cleared us for the visibility, which the first officer acknowledged, and I missed entirely. Imagine my surprise when I looked away from the airport and back to where I was going, only to see 1 of our company aircraft 'boresighted!' I turned toward the runway and at the same time was admonished for flying through final by ATC. I immediately responded that we were still on an assigned heading. ATC and my first officer both informed me that I was in error. Much to my surprise, the captain of the other aircraft is still a good friend of mine. I am truly clueless as to how I missed that call. Of all the mistakes, I can and do make in life, this just isn't one that I make, especially on an approach, even if it was VMC. I think contributing factors were ATC's lowered vigilance due to the other aircraft having reported me in sight, and my first officer's unwillingness to correct/question me. (He is a recently type-rated captain who is stuck flying as a senior first officer.) the responsibility for the safe conduct of the flight, however, still lies squarely with me. Live and learn.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION. HEADING TRACK DEVIATION.
Narrative: I WAS PF AND PIC. WE WERE ON AN ASSIGNED HDG, A RIGHT BASE FOR A VIS TO 24R AT DAY. COMPANY TFC WAS ON THE LOC FOR 24L. HE HAD US IN SIGHT, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE HIM. ATC CLRED US FOR THE VIS, WHICH THE F/O ACKNOWLEDGED, AND I MISSED ENTIRELY. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I LOOKED AWAY FROM THE ARPT AND BACK TO WHERE I WAS GOING, ONLY TO SEE 1 OF OUR COMPANY ACFT 'BORESIGHTED!' I TURNED TOWARD THE RWY AND AT THE SAME TIME WAS ADMONISHED FOR FLYING THROUGH FINAL BY ATC. I IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED THAT WE WERE STILL ON AN ASSIGNED HDG. ATC AND MY F/O BOTH INFORMED ME THAT I WAS IN ERROR. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, THE CAPT OF THE OTHER ACFT IS STILL A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE. I AM TRULY CLUELESS AS TO HOW I MISSED THAT CALL. OF ALL THE MISTAKES, I CAN AND DO MAKE IN LIFE, THIS JUST ISN'T ONE THAT I MAKE, ESPECIALLY ON AN APCH, EVEN IF IT WAS VMC. I THINK CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE ATC'S LOWERED VIGILANCE DUE TO THE OTHER ACFT HAVING RPTED ME IN SIGHT, AND MY F/O'S UNWILLINGNESS TO CORRECT/QUESTION ME. (HE IS A RECENTLY TYPE-RATED CAPT WHO IS STUCK FLYING AS A SENIOR F/O.) THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SAFE CONDUCT OF THE FLT, HOWEVER, STILL LIES SQUARELY WITH ME. LIVE AND LEARN.
