Narrative:
Encountered severe turbulence and lost approximately 1500' from cruise altitude FL390. Immediately notified ATC and requested FL370. We heard ATC instruct another aircraft to immediately descend to FL350, but ATC did not mention conflict danger to us.

Title: CPR LTT LOST 1500' IN TURBULENCE WHILE FLYING AT FL390 OVER MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.
Narrative: ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB AND LOST APPROX 1500' FROM CRUISE ALT FL390. IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED ATC AND REQUESTED FL370. WE HEARD ATC INSTRUCT ANOTHER ACFT TO IMMEDIATELY DSND TO FL350, BUT ATC DID NOT MENTION CONFLICT DANGER TO US.
