Narrative:
Left base visual xxl ZZZ cleared visual approach. First officer turned inside marker as we were cleared visual. Descending to 1;000 ft. This triggered ATC low altitude advisory with info that minimum vectoring altitude had been exceeded. At no time was the aircraft in an unwanted configuration [or] in an undesired state with regard to terrain. In the future I will state that the final will be flown over the marker at or above the outer marker crossing altitude.in retrospect I should have advised the first officer of my desire to fly over the marker at published altitudes; to avoid any such occurrence with ATC equipment.all visuals will be flown over the outer marker at nlt marker altitude.
