Narrative:
Took off from buf, takeoff normal but could not normally retract gear. Consulted flight manual emergency procedure and used override to raise gear. Suspected right flight/ground safety switch. The lift dumper system was MEL'd by maintenance prior to flight and is involved with the gear and numerous other systems, including the left dumper system. Prior to flight maintenance indicated this switch was dented. After gear retraction numerous triple chime alerts occurred, including stabilizer confign, flap confign, anti-skid and no alert inhibition. I suspected a problem with the right flight/ground switch and elected to return to buf because of these system alerts. Landing and taxi to gate were normal. Maintenance should have done a better inspection of this switch prior to flight. Supplemental information from acn 169588: as it turned out, maintenance had changed the right main brake during the night. In doing so, the right squat switch was damaged. During the preflight we noticed alerts that could not be cleared, so maintenance was called and the alerts cleared. The maintenance supervisor signed off the log and explained the system was MEL-able. We were cleared for departure. The captain called maintenance control and received the same advice, consistent with the maintenance supervisor. Upon departure the alerts returned and we returned to buf.

Title: DAMAGED SENSING SWITCH DISALLOWS THE GEAR TO RETRACT ON ACR MLG AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: TOOK OFF FROM BUF, TKOF NORMAL BUT COULD NOT NORMALLY RETRACT GEAR. CONSULTED FLT MANUAL EMER PROC AND USED OVERRIDE TO RAISE GEAR. SUSPECTED RIGHT FLT/GND SAFETY SWITCH. THE LIFT DUMPER SYS WAS MEL'D BY MAINT PRIOR TO FLT AND IS INVOLVED WITH THE GEAR AND NUMEROUS OTHER SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE LEFT DUMPER SYS. PRIOR TO FLT MAINT INDICATED THIS SWITCH WAS DENTED. AFTER GEAR RETRACTION NUMEROUS TRIPLE CHIME ALERTS OCCURRED, INCLUDING STABILIZER CONFIGN, FLAP CONFIGN, ANTI-SKID AND NO ALERT INHIBITION. I SUSPECTED A PROB WITH THE RIGHT FLT/GND SWITCH AND ELECTED TO RETURN TO BUF BECAUSE OF THESE SYS ALERTS. LNDG AND TAXI TO GATE WERE NORMAL. MAINT SHOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER INSPECTION OF THIS SWITCH PRIOR TO FLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 169588: AS IT TURNED OUT, MAINT HAD CHANGED THE RIGHT MAIN BRAKE DURING THE NIGHT. IN DOING SO, THE RIGHT SQUAT SWITCH WAS DAMAGED. DURING THE PREFLT WE NOTICED ALERTS THAT COULD NOT BE CLRED, SO MAINT WAS CALLED AND THE ALERTS CLRED. THE MAINT SUPVR SIGNED OFF THE LOG AND EXPLAINED THE SYS WAS MEL-ABLE. WE WERE CLRED FOR DEP. THE CAPT CALLED MAINT CTL AND RECEIVED THE SAME ADVICE, CONSISTENT WITH THE MAINT SUPVR. UPON DEP THE ALERTS RETURNED AND WE RETURNED TO BUF.
