Narrative:
Arrived at aircraft to find MEL for 'thrust reverser unlatched.' procedure called for manual storing or reverser and MEL per regulations was accomplished. MEL indicated only 1 reverser necessary for flight. We took aircraft. On before takeoff checklist decided not to arm automatic throttle because of reverser MEL. Once airborne the automatic throttles would not arm. Arriving at destination airport (cle), the automatic throttle was written up in log book. For dispatch, 1 automatic throttle channel is required. Maintenance found no problem with automatic throttles, except they would not engage. Findings were that with the thrust reverse not locked, displayed on MFDU, it automatically disarmed automatic throttles and would not allow them to engage, which are necessary for flight. Aircraft should not have been dispatched west/O further investigation of reverser problem at departure city. A mishap (irregular operations) report has been filed with the company.
