Narrative:
Light transport flight destination pit, right oil pressure gauge was erratic. Pilot had premonition that engine might fail and switched electrical to left engine. On intercept vector right torque gauge began to fail and when engine started to spool down captain shut down the engine. F/a and passenger advised of engine shut down but to expect normal landing. Flight landed normally and taxied in on one engine with emergency ground equipment following the aircraft. Logbook was completed and mechanics later found that the oil cap had been left off. Maintenance decided to fly the aircraft and did so until the engine mfr ordered the aircraft grounded and the engine be removed for overhaul. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. No additional information was received on callback.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SEVERAL INDICATIONS OF IMPENDING ENGINE FLR CAUSED CAPT TO SWITCH ELECTRICAL AND SHUT ENGINE DOWN BEFORE FLR OCCURRED. ENGINE WAS FILLED WITH OIL AND TESTED AND THEN FLOWN UNTIL ENGINE MANUFACTURER ORDERED THE ENGINE REMOVED FOR TEAR DOWN EXAMINATION.
Narrative: LTT FLT DEST PIT, R OIL PRESSURE GAUGE WAS ERRATIC. PLT HAD PREMONITION THAT ENG MIGHT FAIL AND SWITCHED ELECTRICAL TO L ENG. ON INTERCEPT VECTOR R TORQUE GAUGE BEGAN TO FAIL AND WHEN ENG STARTED TO SPOOL DOWN CAPT SHUT DOWN THE ENG. F/A AND PAX ADVISED OF ENG SHUT DOWN BUT TO EXPECT NORMAL LNDG. FLT LANDED NORMALLY AND TAXIED IN ON ONE ENG WITH EMER GND EQUIP FOLLOWING THE ACFT. LOGBOOK WAS COMPLETED AND MECHS LATER FOUND THAT THE OIL CAP HAD BEEN LEFT OFF. MAINT DECIDED TO FLY THE ACFT AND DID SO UNTIL THE ENG MFR ORDERED THE ACFT GNDED AND THE ENG BE REMOVED FOR OVERHAUL. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. NO ADDITIONAL INFO WAS RECEIVED ON CALLBACK.
