Narrative:
While taxiing out of exit spot flight engineer on the ewr ramp; we were cleared to taxi rb to a. When we were leaving the ramp there was construction going on in the triangle between north; a and PA. Our attention was momentarily diverted to a convoy of dump trucks that drove out in front of us as we were leaving flight engineer. I diverted too much attention to allowing space between my left wingtip and the dump truck while I was taxiing. Looking at the construction it seemed to impede what was taxiway a; I misidentified taxiway a and the terminal a entry into the [company] ramp. Ground told us to stop and contact ramp; which we did. Ramp told us to contact ground which we did and they told us to continue a right turn on RA to a left turn on a which we did and the rest was uneventful. I am not sure of the signage for taxiway a coming from the [company] ramp.unusual taxi instruction from the normal flow; taxiway a instead of B. Attention diverted to construction and truck while I should have slowed down or stopped to recalculate the route. Not triple checking the taxi chart. Stopping and reviewing a shared mental picture with my co-pilot. If construction trucks are a factor stop and let ground know. Don't allow preconceived taxi biases to cause a conflict. Don't let yourself get too hurried. For future flights from ewr it might be a good idea to let the crews know that a has enough taxi clearance for all aircraft. Visually from the [company] ramp it doesn't appear to be the case.

Title: Air carrier Captain reported taxiway incursion due to distraction from taxiway construction area and associated vehicles.
Narrative: While taxiing out of exit spot FE on the EWR Ramp; we were cleared to taxi RB to A. When we were leaving the ramp there was construction going on in the triangle between N; A and PA. Our attention was momentarily diverted to a convoy of dump trucks that drove out in front of us as we were leaving FE.
