Upon initial climbout; the motor began to shudder violently and dropped to 1000 RPM at full throttle. I immediately pitched for vg (best glide speed) advised ATC and turned back to the airport for runway xx. ZZZ tower cleared me to land runway xx and made it the runway safely.

Title: C172 pilot reported a loss of engine power during climbout that resulted in a precautionary landing.
Narrative: Upon initial climbout; the motor began to shudder violently and dropped to 1000 RPM at full throttle. I immediately pitched for VG (Best Glide Speed) advised ATC and turned back to the airport for Runway XX. ZZZ Tower cleared me to land Runway XX and made it the runway safely.
