Narrative:
We were cleared to bos via the gardner 2 arrival. The captain was flying. When we got to 29 DME east of gdm on 111R the captain turned south and attempted to intercept the 030 degree right from bos. I told him he turned too soon, and just as we were discussing it approach gave us a turn back in the proper direction. The way approach said it, it sounded like our misreading of the STAR and an early turn happens frequently. The problem: no DME # for rever intersection where turn should begin. Only # nearby is 29, which is segment distance. The solution: put 'D49' at rever. Comment: this is a very easy mistake to make in a very busy approach environment, especially when you're not familiar with the area and it's nighttime. These charts are hard enough to read in bright light. Please keep them as simple as possible.
