Narrative:
Following a runway 24 takeoff from ams, I made a left turn to intercept the 248 degree right of pam before crossing the 4.2 DME of spl. The nyker SID, our assigned departure, requires a runway heading climb to the 4.2 DME before turning. The FMS was properly programmed, the SID was reviewed and a departure briefing was completed. The premature turn was inadvertent. At the time of the takeoff we had been on duty for more than 10.5 hours. The problem was discovered by the controller and simultaneously by us with reference to the FMS/HSI and SID. Contributing factors: fatigue, large # of departures and departure instructions, noise abatement climb different from us human performance considerations: the last item of the SID that I reviewed was, 'immediately after takeoff and before passing 1500', contact schiphol departure...' after liftoff and gear retraction I began thinking, 'immediately after takeoff turn...'
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR HVT TRACK HEADING DEVIATION FLYING NOISE SID OUT OF AMS.
Narrative: FOLLOWING A RWY 24 TKOF FROM AMS, I MADE A LEFT TURN TO INTERCEPT THE 248 DEG R OF PAM BEFORE XING THE 4.2 DME OF SPL. THE NYKER SID, OUR ASSIGNED DEP, REQUIRES A RWY HDG CLB TO THE 4.2 DME BEFORE TURNING. THE FMS WAS PROPERLY PROGRAMMED, THE SID WAS REVIEWED AND A DEP BRIEFING WAS COMPLETED. THE PREMATURE TURN WAS INADVERTENT. AT THE TIME OF THE TKOF WE HAD BEEN ON DUTY FOR MORE THAN 10.5 HRS. THE PROB WAS DISCOVERED BY THE CTLR AND SIMULTANEOUSLY BY US WITH REF TO THE FMS/HSI AND SID. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: FATIGUE, LARGE # OF DEPS AND DEP INSTRUCTIONS, NOISE ABATEMENT CLB DIFFERENT FROM U.S. HUMAN PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: THE LAST ITEM OF THE SID THAT I REVIEWED WAS, 'IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF AND BEFORE PASSING 1500', CONTACT SCHIPHOL DEP...' AFTER LIFTOFF AND GEAR RETRACTION I BEGAN THINKING, 'IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF TURN...'
