Narrative:

Hsv-atl flight. Leveling off at cruise when left np momentarily dropped to 91.8. F/a called cockpit and said passenger reported sparks and flames out of left engine. Other than momentary drop in left np, we saw no indication in cockpit. We were at level cruise by then, and as a precautionary measure, followed engine shutdown procedure and used appropriate checklist for left engine. By the time the procedure was completed and checklist used, we were at rome VOR. Rome VOR followed rome arrival into ATC and requested and received priority landing. Single engine performance was good and passenger were told of situation. On the ground, maintenance informed me the left auxiliary generator had burned up.
