Narrative:
Crew door emergency exit opened and was torn off during flight approximately midway between lny and ogg airports. As this door was checked prior to departure, my recommendation would be a requirement for early model small transport twin to install a secondary lock mechanism.

Title: IN CRUISE FLT AT 2500' MSL BETWEEN LNY AND OGG, FLT CREW EMERGENCY EXIT OPENED AND DEPARTED THE ACFT.
Narrative: CREW DOOR EMER EXIT OPENED AND WAS TORN OFF DURING FLT APPROX MIDWAY BTWN LNY AND OGG ARPTS. AS THIS DOOR WAS CHKED PRIOR TO DEP, MY RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE A REQUIREMENT FOR EARLY MODEL SMT TWIN TO INSTALL A SECONDARY LOCK MECHANISM.
