Narrative:

On arrival to airport area attempted to contact ground by unicom but unable to contact anyone. I then xed midfield to determine proper runway by use of windsock. Determined proper runway was 33. I made normal approach and landing but when flaring experienced a sudden updraft and wind shift which made me land long. I immediately applied full braking action but was unable to stop on normal hard surface. I rolled into grass and was stopped by some very large rocks. After plane came to full stop, I evacuated all passengers. The approach to this runway was very poor. It was necessary to approach over a landfill with a large dirt mound at the end of runway. This added to the poor landing. Also, with such a short runway a larger run off area would have aided in a safer landing. The large rocks which were hidden in the tall grass should be removed. An arresting net would be beneficial on this runway or larger run off area or just longer runway. There were multiple problems experienced on this landing. To conclude, short runway, poor approach, short run off grass area, multiple large hidden rocks, poor wind conditions. As pilot in charge, it was my decision to attempt landing. I learned a lot with this short field landing.

Title: PLT OF SMA LNDG AT UNCONTROLLED ARPT LANDED LONG OVERSHOT RWY STOPPED BY LARGE ROCKS IN GRASSY AREA.

Narrative: ON ARR TO ARPT AREA ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT GND BY UNICOM BUT UNABLE TO CONTACT ANYONE. I THEN XED MIDFIELD TO DETERMINE PROPER RWY BY USE OF WINDSOCK. DETERMINED PROPER RWY WAS 33. I MADE NORMAL APCH AND LNDG BUT WHEN FLARING EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN UPDRAFT AND WIND SHIFT WHICH MADE ME LAND LONG. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED FULL BRAKING ACTION BUT WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON NORMAL HARD SURFACE. I ROLLED INTO GRASS AND WAS STOPPED BY SOME VERY LARGE ROCKS. AFTER PLANE CAME TO FULL STOP, I EVACUATED ALL PAXS. THE APCH TO THIS RWY WAS VERY POOR. IT WAS NECESSARY TO APCH OVER A LANDFILL WITH A LARGE DIRT MOUND AT THE END OF RWY. THIS ADDED TO THE POOR LNDG. ALSO, WITH SUCH A SHORT RWY A LARGER RUN OFF AREA WOULD HAVE AIDED IN A SAFER LNDG. THE LARGE ROCKS WHICH WERE HIDDEN IN THE TALL GRASS SHOULD BE REMOVED. AN ARRESTING NET WOULD BE BENEFICIAL ON THIS RWY OR LARGER RUN OFF AREA OR JUST LONGER RWY. THERE WERE MULTIPLE PROBS EXPERIENCED ON THIS LNDG. TO CONCLUDE, SHORT RWY, POOR APCH, SHORT RUN OFF GRASS AREA, MULTIPLE LARGE HIDDEN ROCKS, POOR WIND CONDITIONS. AS PLT IN CHARGE, IT WAS MY DECISION TO ATTEMPT LNDG. I LEARNED A LOT WITH THIS SHORT FIELD LNDG.
