Narrative:
About 2 hours from ord, first officer informed me that she was experiencing stomach pains. Her condition worsened to the point that I felt she could not longer perform her first officer duties. A company heavy transport first officer who was deadheading in the cabin agreed to assist, so I decided to utilize him in the right seat in the place of the ailing first officer, who was assisted to a seat in the cabin. The heavy transport first officer was briefed on the location and use of the radios, instruments and safety equipment on the medium large transport. I then landed the aircraft at ord west/O further incident. I believe that the company policy of standardizing SOP's for all types of company aircraft was important in allowing this flight to operate safely and with minimum distrs to its destination.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG FO WAS INCAPACITATED BY STOMACH PAINS ENROUTE TO ORD. CAPT USED A DEADHEADING COMPANY FO AS A REPLACEMENT AND CONTINUED TO DESTINATION. REPLACEMENT WAS NOT CERTIFIED FOR THE ACFT IN USE.
Narrative: ABOUT 2 HRS FROM ORD, F/O INFORMED ME THAT SHE WAS EXPERIENCING STOMACH PAINS. HER CONDITION WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT I FELT SHE COULD NOT LONGER PERFORM HER F/O DUTIES. A COMPANY HVT F/O WHO WAS DEADHEADING IN THE CABIN AGREED TO ASSIST, SO I DECIDED TO UTILIZE HIM IN THE RIGHT SEAT IN THE PLACE OF THE AILING F/O, WHO WAS ASSISTED TO A SEAT IN THE CABIN. THE HVT F/O WAS BRIEFED ON THE LOCATION AND USE OF THE RADIOS, INSTRUMENTS AND SAFETY EQUIP ON THE MLG. I THEN LANDED THE ACFT AT ORD W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPANY POLICY OF STANDARDIZING SOP'S FOR ALL TYPES OF COMPANY ACFT WAS IMPORTANT IN ALLOWING THIS FLT TO OPERATE SAFELY AND WITH MINIMUM DISTRS TO ITS DEST.
