Narrative:
While picking up clearance in bhm I failed to verify spelling of first fix and I failed to verify it on map; so on departure I was given direct gummp and I went direct gumpe. Departure called and stated [we were] left of course; I asked for [a] vector and then asked for correct fix spelling. Afterward I requested and received direct to correct fix. In [the] future to avoid [this]; I will verify all spelling with clearance and verify on efb that [the] route makes sense and clarify any discrepancies before taxi.
