Narrative:
Approximately 15 NM north of fim, received clearance for runway 24/25 profile descent. This was not a part of our clearance, nor were we told to expect it. The clearance was received too late to effect a safe, controled descent, and required the use of a maximum effort descent for most of the profile.

Narrative: APPROX 15 NM N OF FIM, RECEIVED CLRNC FOR RWY 24/25 PROFILE DSNT. THIS WAS NOT A PART OF OUR CLRNC, NOR WERE WE TOLD TO EXPECT IT. THE CLRNC WAS RECEIVED TOO LATE TO EFFECT A SAFE, CTLED DSNT, AND REQUIRED THE USE OF A MAX EFFORT DSNT FOR MOST OF THE PROFILE.
