During descent the #2 engine egt began to fluctuate and peaked at 1007 degrees. An 'X' would also intermittently display on the #2 egt indicator. Performed a precautionary engine shutdown and received vectors for the ILS. Captain flew the approach and executed an auto land.

Title: Air carrier Captain reported that high EGT indications resulted in an engine shutdown.
Narrative: During descent the #2 engine EGT began to fluctuate and peaked at 1007 degrees. An 'X' would also intermittently display on the #2 EGT indicator. Performed a precautionary engine shutdown and received vectors for the ILS. Captain flew the approach and executed an auto land.
