Narrative:
Captain assumed since pressure in the area (ground) was below 29.29, he should set his altimeter to that setting. By the time I could explain 29.92 above 17999'--usable altitudes--ZTL had called us on 500' above altitude assigned. I believe the captain's memory is now refreshed.

Title: CLIMBED TO 19500' VERSUS 19000' WHEN WRONG ALT SETTING WAS INSERTED.
Narrative: CAPT ASSUMED SINCE PRESSURE IN THE AREA (GND) WAS BELOW 29.29, HE SHOULD SET HIS ALTIMETER TO THAT SETTING. BY THE TIME I COULD EXPLAIN 29.92 ABOVE 17999'--USABLE ALTS--ZTL HAD CALLED US ON 500' ABOVE ALT ASSIGNED. I BELIEVE THE CAPT'S MEMORY IS NOW REFRESHED.
