Narrative:
I took off from iah bnd for guatemala city, and when slightly south of galveston discovered that the #2 ADF was deactivated and unusable. Elected to proceed to destination west/O further incident. I felt with 2 working VOR's and only about 20 mins of dead reckoning between galveston and menida VOR, that I was ok, even if #1 ADF failed. The only corrective action I could suggest is that I should have picked up on #2 ADF not working on preflight and not relied on the copilot to be checking it. Supplemental information from acn 175072: once we were airborne, we discovered the second ADF was deactivated. We were committed to cross the gulf airspace using dead reckoning, VOR navigation and with single ADF. We tried unsuccessfully to contact dispatch while airborne. We contacted dispatch on the ground in gua.

Title: ACR LGT COMMITS TO OVERWATER FLT WITH LESS THAN MANDATED NAVIGATIONAL EQUIPMENT. SEE ACN 175095 FOR RELATED SITUATION OCCURRING THE FOLLOWING DAY.
Narrative: I TOOK OFF FROM IAH BND FOR GUATEMALA CITY, AND WHEN SLIGHTLY S OF GALVESTON DISCOVERED THAT THE #2 ADF WAS DEACTIVATED AND UNUSABLE. ELECTED TO PROCEED TO DEST W/O FURTHER INCIDENT. I FELT WITH 2 WORKING VOR'S AND ONLY ABOUT 20 MINS OF DEAD RECKONING BTWN GALVESTON AND MENIDA VOR, THAT I WAS OK, EVEN IF #1 ADF FAILED. THE ONLY CORRECTIVE ACTION I COULD SUGGEST IS THAT I SHOULD HAVE PICKED UP ON #2 ADF NOT WORKING ON PREFLT AND NOT RELIED ON THE COPLT TO BE CHKING IT.
