Narrative:
After crossing aco VOR, I intercepted V337 to proceed to cutta intersection and was descended to 6000' upon contacting pit approach. Before reaching cutta, pit approach began giving me vectors for the airport. At approximately 10 NM from airport, I requested lower, since the aircraft I was flying was non pressurized and I didn't want to super cool the engines. I requested lower twice, but the controller never responded--he was very busy. I was vectored approximately 2 NM north of the airport and turned to 090 degrees and assigned runway 27R. Again I requested lower and was given 5000'. At this time there was quite a line of jets for runway 28R. So, since I wasn't being given a lower altitude and being told to keep up my speed, I assumed I was going to be vectored out behind the jets. All of a sudden I was given a right turn and cleared for a visibility approach for runway 27R, and he requested that I keep my speed up. So I slowed to 160 KTS to at least apply my approach flaps. At this point I was on about 3-4 NM final. The approach controller then told me to contact tower. Tower told me to continue for runway 27R. Both controllers kept calling me by the wrong tail #--instead of xyz they were calling me yxz. On about 1 1/2 mi final, I slowed for aircraft to 140 KTS to extend the gear. At that time the controller told me that I was #2 for the runway. At this point I was trying to look for the traffic, slow the aircraft and descend. I tried asking the position of the traffic and for a right 360 degree turn. The only request the controller responded was to decline the right 360 degree turn. His response was partially blocked, so I continued to look for the traffic and tried to continue for the runway. The tower then gave me a turn to 280 degrees. I responded that I was heading 280 dgs and climbing to 3000'.

Title: SMA HAD TO MAKE A MISSED APCH DUE TO POOR TRACON RADAR CTLR TECHNIQUE AND INTRAFAC COORD BREAKDOWN.
Narrative: AFTER XING ACO VOR, I INTERCEPTED V337 TO PROCEED TO CUTTA INTXN AND WAS DSNDED TO 6000' UPON CONTACTING PIT APCH. BEFORE REACHING CUTTA, PIT APCH BEGAN GIVING ME VECTORS FOR THE ARPT. AT APPROX 10 NM FROM ARPT, I REQUESTED LOWER, SINCE THE ACFT I WAS FLYING WAS NON PRESSURIZED AND I DIDN'T WANT TO SUPER COOL THE ENGS. I REQUESTED LOWER TWICE, BUT THE CTLR NEVER RESPONDED--HE WAS VERY BUSY. I WAS VECTORED APPROX 2 NM N OF THE ARPT AND TURNED TO 090 DEGS AND ASSIGNED RWY 27R. AGAIN I REQUESTED LOWER AND WAS GIVEN 5000'. AT THIS TIME THERE WAS QUITE A LINE OF JETS FOR RWY 28R. SO, SINCE I WASN'T BEING GIVEN A LOWER ALT AND BEING TOLD TO KEEP UP MY SPD, I ASSUMED I WAS GOING TO BE VECTORED OUT BEHIND THE JETS. ALL OF A SUDDEN I WAS GIVEN A RIGHT TURN AND CLRED FOR A VIS APCH FOR RWY 27R, AND HE REQUESTED THAT I KEEP MY SPD UP. SO I SLOWED TO 160 KTS TO AT LEAST APPLY MY APCH FLAPS. AT THIS POINT I WAS ON ABOUT 3-4 NM FINAL. THE APCH CTLR THEN TOLD ME TO CONTACT TWR. TWR TOLD ME TO CONTINUE FOR RWY 27R. BOTH CTLRS KEPT CALLING ME BY THE WRONG TAIL #--INSTEAD OF XYZ THEY WERE CALLING ME YXZ. ON ABOUT 1 1/2 MI FINAL, I SLOWED FOR ACFT TO 140 KTS TO EXTEND THE GEAR. AT THAT TIME THE CTLR TOLD ME THAT I WAS #2 FOR THE RWY. AT THIS POINT I WAS TRYING TO LOOK FOR THE TFC, SLOW THE ACFT AND DSND. I TRIED ASKING THE POS OF THE TFC AND FOR A RIGHT 360 DEG TURN. THE ONLY REQUEST THE CTLR RESPONDED WAS TO DECLINE THE RIGHT 360 DEG TURN. HIS RESPONSE WAS PARTIALLY BLOCKED, SO I CONTINUED TO LOOK FOR THE TFC AND TRIED TO CONTINUE FOR THE RWY. THE TWR THEN GAVE ME A TURN TO 280 DEGS. I RESPONDED THAT I WAS HDG 280 DGS AND CLBING TO 3000'.
