Narrative:

After takeoff from sfo 28R on the shoreline 8 departure the first officer told me to turn to another heading (can't remember what) to intercept the ilgen 5 departure. I questioned the first officer as this seemed non-standard to me. He had obtained the clearance and was positive we were supposed to make this turn. After turning approximately 40 degree bay approach asked us to state our heading. After we told them our heading, they told us to turn to another as soon as possible and wanted to know our clearance. We could not produce our clearance as the first officer had not written it down. I did not cover my tail by making sure I had the written clearance on board. Flying with a high time first officer, I trusted coupled with trying to make a quick turn on the previous leg had caused a potential dangerous situation of not knowing the clearance.

Title: FLT CREW OF COMMUTER MADE WRONG TURN AFTER TKOF SFO. CORRECTED BY DEP CTLR.

Narrative: AFTER TKOF FROM SFO 28R ON THE SHORELINE 8 DEP THE F/O TOLD ME TO TURN TO ANOTHER HDG (CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT) TO INTERCEPT THE ILGEN 5 DEP. I QUESTIONED THE F/O AS THIS SEEMED NON-STANDARD TO ME. HE HAD OBTAINED THE CLRNC AND WAS POSITIVE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO MAKE THIS TURN. AFTER TURNING APPROX 40 DEG BAY APCH ASKED US TO STATE OUR HDG. AFTER WE TOLD THEM OUR HDG, THEY TOLD US TO TURN TO ANOTHER ASAP AND WANTED TO KNOW OUR CLRNC. WE COULD NOT PRODUCE OUR CLRNC AS THE F/O HAD NOT WRITTEN IT DOWN. I DID NOT COVER MY TAIL BY MAKING SURE I HAD THE WRITTEN CLRNC ON BOARD. FLYING WITH A HIGH TIME F/O, I TRUSTED COUPLED WITH TRYING TO MAKE A QUICK TURN ON THE PREVIOUS LEG HAD CAUSED A POTENTIAL DANGEROUS SITUATION OF NOT KNOWING THE CLRNC.
