Narrative:
I departed kent for a solo x-country from 1g3 direct ksky direct mfd direct 1g3. On the final leg I flew an altitude of 3700' MSL to avoid cle TCA. I thought that I had found my first three chkpoints. I had trouble finding my next chkpoint and tried to find my position. I saw a very large airport ahead and realized that I was off course and lost. I then called cle radio and squawked 7700. After cle radio located me they switched me to cle departure who changed my squawk code. Cle departure was able to put me north a course to 1g3. After I had the airport in sight I tried to call cle departure several times to notify 'airport in sight.' they did not receive me. I then entered traffic pattern for kent, did one go around then safely landed runway 19. After landing, my instrument informed me of ATC supervisor's phone call and that he was concerned. We then discussed what had happened. We then review the entire flight in detail and practiced pilotage and emergency lost procedures for next lesson.
