Narrative:
On flight XXX from avl to clt it was low ceiling and low visibility. As we switched over to tower we heard tower say to the #1 in position call when the next aircraft passes you. We heard that cal. We landed and cleared the runway at the second high speed taxiway. Told tower we cleared the runway. Went over to ground and ground called us flight xaxx. It wasn't us it was a flight that just landed in front of us. We told him that we were flight XXX and not flight xaxx, he said yea it landed in front of us; sorry and told us to go over to ramp control. As I got to the ramp I was told to call the tower. When I called the tower they said we did not let them know we had cleared the runway possibly causing a potential go around for that runway. That did not happen. We called and we were acknowledged by ground by the mere fact we told him that we were not flight xaxx and we were in fact flight XXX. I feel that they have already pulled the tapes found there 'oops', and have dropped it. Also someone needs to look into the runway situation at cle hopkins airport. Another detroit is going to happen there. There are too many intersecting runways in cle with no pat definition of where they are. Check it out on an approach plate. On a low visibility day or worse night this is an accident in the making.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ATCT LCL CTLR MISS INDENTIFIED REPORTER'S ACFT AND THEN ALLEGED THE ACFT HAD NOT CALLED CLEARING THE RWY AS REQUESTED.
Narrative: ON FLT XXX FROM AVL TO CLT IT WAS LOW CEILING AND LOW VISIBILITY. AS WE SWITCHED OVER TO TWR WE HEARD TWR SAY TO THE #1 IN POS CALL WHEN THE NEXT ACFT PASSES YOU. WE HEARD THAT CAL. WE LANDED AND CLRED THE RWY AT THE SEC HIGH SPD TXWY. TOLD TWR WE CLRED THE RWY. WENT OVER TO GND AND GND CALLED US FLT XAXX. IT WASN'T US IT WAS A FLT THAT JUST LANDED IN FRONT OF US. WE TOLD HIM THAT WE WERE FLT XXX AND NOT FLT XAXX, HE SAID YEA IT LANDED IN FRONT OF US; SORRY AND TOLD US TO GO OVER TO RAMP CTL. AS I GOT TO THE RAMP I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE TWR. WHEN I CALLED THE TWR THEY SAID WE DID NOT LET THEM KNOW WE HAD CLRED THE RWY POSSIBLY CAUSING A POTENTIAL GAR FOR THAT RWY. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. WE CALLED AND WE WERE ACKNOWLEDGED BY GND BY THE MERE FACT WE TOLD HIM THAT WE WERE NOT FLT XAXX AND WE WERE IN FACT FLT XXX. I FEEL THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY PULLED THE TAPES FOUND THERE 'OOPS', AND HAVE DROPPED IT. ALSO SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THE RWY SITUATION AT CLE HOPKINS ARPT. ANOTHER DETROIT IS GOING TO HAPPEN THERE. THERE ARE TOO MANY INTERSECTING RWYS IN CLE WITH NO PAT DEFINITION OF WHERE THEY ARE. CHK IT OUT ON AN APCH PLATE. ON A LOW VISIBILITY DAY OR WORSE NIGHT THIS IS AN ACCIDENT IN THE MAKING.
