Narrative:
While practicing landings in the pattern at ZZZ. Myself and my student were downwind at 1400 feet MSL when we noticed a drone flying at the same altitude but heading north directly in our path. We took an evasive maneuver by banking to the right to fly around the drone. The drone did not alter course; heading; or altitude. Had we not maneuvered a head on mid-air collision was inevitable. After I reported this over the CTAF; unicom attempted to contact the drone operator via the radio frequency but with no luck. This drone seemed to resemble that of an amateur photography style not a professional.
