Narrative:

I was returning back to my base airport ZZZ. I was around 3 miles northwest of the field; the engine quit; so I informed the tower that I have an engine failure and [requested priority handling]. The tower cleared me to land on runway xx. I also attempted a restart; while I was establishing myself on the left downwind after crossing the midfield; the engine started again; so I informed the tower; and got clearance to land. Once I was established on the downwind; the engine quit again; so I informed the tower for [priority handling]. The tower again cleared me to land on runway xx. I glided the plane onto the runway. The airport operations had to tow the aircraft clear of the runway.
