Narrative:

I began work on aircraft X with my crew as the card person. I occasionally do the card and this was the first time in years that I had done a flight with this many items on it. When I printed out the dstg [departure staging guide] I saw there were 2 carts of freight totaling about 3000 pounds; 3 quickpacks and about 88 bags planned for the flight. After I assigned the items (1 of the freight in pit; the other freight in pit 4; the quickpacks in 5; and the bags in 4) we began to load the flight. The first item of freight was very heavy and difficult to load into pit 3. Took a lot more time than expected and by the time we were finished we only had about 27 minutes left to finish the flight. I went to get the bags and on the way to the bag room I saw the supervisor and told her that we were running behind after loading the 1st item of freight in front and that I wanted to hold off the second freight because there wouldn't be enough time. She said it was ok and to go ahead and hold it off the flight. I picked up the bags and loaded them into their planned pits. Finally I decided to load the quickpack boxes last into pit 5. I didn't notice that one of the boxes had dry ice in it and was dangerous goods (dg). When it was time to close out the flight on the scanner it would not allow me to because I didn't have 15 bags loaded together with the dangerous goods. On the scanner I changed the location to pit 4 so that the scanner would accept the close out. We pushed out the plane and on the way back to the gate the supervisor approached and asked about the dg being moved to pit 4 and I told her that I did that so the flight would close out on the scanner. She said that wasn't acceptable and that the plane would have to come back and be loaded correctly. She also told me to contact clp [central load planning] and speak with them. Clp told me that they would reopen the flight. When the plane came back [we] moved bags and secured dg in pit 5. I told the supervisor that it was corrected and she left. We pushed the plane out and the scanner still would not let me close out the flight. I tried calling clp again several times for advice but they weren't answering. Now that the flight was on taxiway and the dg was secure I thought that it was most important to close out the flight so on the scanner I moved the dg to pit 4 so it would close. I decided that since the dg itself was 5lbs or less it wouldn't put anything at risk.
