Narrative:
While en route from clt to pit, washington center gave us a descent clearance to cross 30 south of mgw at 230. As per our company policy, I wrote down 20S mgw at 230 on our flight sheet, set 23000' in the altitude preselect window and read back 'leaving 290 to cross 30S morgantown at 230.' both PF and myself heard 230 restriction. While we were 32S mgw out of 23400' leveling at FL230, ATC requested our altitude. I said we were leveling at 230 an he said our restriction was 240 because he had traffic at 230. Both of us heard 230 in the aircraft, and it was read back as 230. I don't know where the conflict was at, on our end or ATC's, only listening to the tapes will tell what happened. However, if ATC did give us 240, we read back 230 and he did not correct the readback. I suspect he was looking at 230 traffic and wanted to give us 240, however, he said 230 instead of 240.

Title: ALT DEVIATION FOR CPR LTT DESCENDING NEAR MGW.
Narrative: WHILE ENRTE FROM CLT TO PIT, WASHINGTON CTR GAVE US A DSNT CLRNC TO CROSS 30 S OF MGW AT 230. AS PER OUR COMPANY POLICY, I WROTE DOWN 20S MGW AT 230 ON OUR FLT SHEET, SET 23000' IN THE ALT PRESELECT WINDOW AND READ BACK 'LEAVING 290 TO CROSS 30S MORGANTOWN AT 230.' BOTH PF AND MYSELF HEARD 230 RESTRICTION. WHILE WE WERE 32S MGW OUT OF 23400' LEVELING AT FL230, ATC REQUESTED OUR ALT. I SAID WE WERE LEVELING AT 230 AN HE SAID OUR RESTRICTION WAS 240 BECAUSE HE HAD TFC AT 230. BOTH OF US HEARD 230 IN THE ACFT, AND IT WAS READ BACK AS 230. I SUSPECT HE WAS LOOKING AT 230 TFC AND WANTED TO GIVE US 240, HOWEVER, HE SAID 230 INSTEAD OF 240.
