Narrative:

Departing evv. I retracted the landing gear and upon retraction heard an unusual noise. The gear unsafe light stayed on, so I returned and landed safely. Upon inspection we found a brace on the landing gear had broken so we flew a replacement part in, and it was repaired by a local maintenance department. I then flew the aircraft home to parkersburg, not knowing that I needed a ferry permit. I may not have needed a ferry permit, but I am writing this report just in case.
