Narrative:
As pilot of flight, I took off from tlh VFR destined to pfn, which was IFR at the time. My intention was to pick up IFR clearance from pam approach as I neared pfn. When I received my clearance, I did not specify an alternate. In the course of the approach, I lost communications and navigation due to double alternator failure. I performed a missed approach and initiated the missed approach procedure's turn and climb instructions to the best I was able, considering that I had only magnetic compass for navigation. At that point upon reaching 500' MSL, as I arrived at the missed approach point, I announced my go around and did not receive a reply. That's when I noticed my electrical failure. At 500' MSL I was in VFR conditions, but could not notify anybody, and with no alternate, no one but me knew what I was going to do. I was able to subsequently restore left alternator power and regained sufficient electrical power enabling navigation and communication capability. I completed my flight west/O incident. My concern was forgetting to specify an alternate on a canned flight plan which became required.

Title: PRIMARY ELECTRICAL SUPPLY PROBLEM EXACERBATES FACT THAT PLT DID NOT FILE AN ALTERNATE ARPT FOR AN IFR DESTINATION AND ON MISSED APCH HE WAS WITHOUT COM.
Narrative: AS PLT OF FLT, I TOOK OFF FROM TLH VFR DESTINED TO PFN, WHICH WAS IFR AT THE TIME. MY INTENTION WAS TO PICK UP IFR CLRNC FROM PAM APCH AS I NEARED PFN. WHEN I RECEIVED MY CLRNC, I DID NOT SPECIFY AN ALTERNATE. IN THE COURSE OF THE APCH, I LOST COMS AND NAV DUE TO DOUBLE ALTERNATOR FAILURE. I PERFORMED A MISSED APCH AND INITIATED THE MISSED APCH PROC'S TURN AND CLB INSTRUCTIONS TO THE BEST I WAS ABLE, CONSIDERING THAT I HAD ONLY MAG COMPASS FOR NAV. AT THAT POINT UPON REACHING 500' MSL, AS I ARRIVED AT THE MISSED APCH POINT, I ANNOUNCED MY GAR AND DID NOT RECEIVE A REPLY. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED MY ELECTRICAL FAILURE. AT 500' MSL I WAS IN VFR CONDITIONS, BUT COULD NOT NOTIFY ANYBODY, AND WITH NO ALTERNATE, NO ONE BUT ME KNEW WHAT I WAS GOING TO DO. I WAS ABLE TO SUBSEQUENTLY RESTORE LEFT ALTERNATOR PWR AND REGAINED SUFFICIENT ELECTRICAL PWR ENABLING NAV AND COM CAPABILITY. I COMPLETED MY FLT W/O INCIDENT. MY CONCERN WAS FORGETTING TO SPECIFY AN ALTERNATE ON A CANNED FLT PLAN WHICH BECAME REQUIRED.
