Narrative:
TCAS development flight for installation on cpr X. We were cleared from lax to wjf via flipr departure sxc control extension 1177, ficky, 1177 sxc, lax, pmd, wjf. We had completed our TCAS testing and we were proceeding via our filed flight plan at 10000'. Approach sxc, center asked if we were returning to lax. We said no, we are going to wjf. Center acknowledged and handed us off to coast approach. As we turned on the sxc-lax leg, air carrier Y passed left to right at about 3 NM in front of us at our altitude. As air carrier Y passed off our right, coast approach wanted to confirm that we had a visibility on the aircraft. After the MD80 cleared we were given a right turn and a reclrnc to wjf via sli V459, expect V459 berri pmd. Obviously coast didn't expect us to turn left on our filed route nor did he know we were going to wjf!

Narrative: TCAS DEVELOPMENT FLT FOR INSTALLATION ON CPR X. WE WERE CLRED FROM LAX TO WJF VIA FLIPR DEP SXC CTL EXTENSION 1177, FICKY, 1177 SXC, LAX, PMD, WJF. WE HAD COMPLETED OUR TCAS TESTING AND WE WERE PROCEEDING VIA OUR FILED FLT PLAN AT 10000'. APCH SXC, CENTER ASKED IF WE WERE RETURNING TO LAX. WE SAID NO, WE ARE GOING TO WJF. CENTER ACKNOWLEDGED AND HANDED US OFF TO COAST APCH. AS WE TURNED ON THE SXC-LAX LEG, ACR Y PASSED LEFT TO RIGHT AT ABOUT 3 NM IN FRONT OF US AT OUR ALT. AS ACR Y PASSED OFF OUR RIGHT, COAST APCH WANTED TO CONFIRM THAT WE HAD A VIS ON THE ACFT. AFTER THE MD80 CLRED WE WERE GIVEN A RIGHT TURN AND A RECLRNC TO WJF VIA SLI V459, EXPECT V459 BERRI PMD. OBVIOUSLY COAST DIDN'T EXPECT US TO TURN LEFT ON OUR FILED RTE NOR DID HE KNOW WE WERE GOING TO WJF!
