Narrative:
Cleared to 8000'. We complied with 8 mi below 3000' restriction. At about 5600', controller called for another our company flight # to level at 5000'. He released me and called us the incorrect #, and that we were already above 5000'. Then he gave us an immediate left turn to the south. First officer had VFR traffic insight at this time. Later conversation with controller indicated a VFR small aircraft had entered TCA west/O clearance.
