Narrative:
Our widebody transport aircraft was directed onto runway 24L lax to follow a larger widebody transport. As we went into position, we requested 2 min wake turbulence delay. Tower (very testily) told us to taxi clear and hold on other side of runway. In doing this, I found there really wasn't enough room to turn around between 24L and 24R. While I was trying to get the aircraft turned around. The tower and the first officer (a former radar controller) were arguing. After I got turned around facing south, I told first officer not to say anything else. My main concern was keeping the widebody transport on taxiway and not striking taxiway lights. Incidentally, tower used a lot more time in this than a 2 min hold in position would have entailed. Just because a tower says, 'caution, wake turbulence,' does not mean turbulence goes away.

Title: FLT CREW OF 2-MAN WDB ACFT CLEARED INTO POSITION FOLLOWING A 4 ENGINE WDB TAKING OFF REQUESTED 2 MINUTE HOLD IN POSITION FOR TURBULENCE SUBSIDENCE. TWR DIRECTED THEM TO CROSS RWY HOLD ON OTHER SIDE.
Narrative: OUR WDB ACFT WAS DIRECTED ONTO RWY 24L LAX TO FOLLOW A LARGER WDB. AS WE WENT INTO POS, WE REQUESTED 2 MIN WAKE TURB DELAY. TWR (VERY TESTILY) TOLD US TO TAXI CLR AND HOLD ON OTHER SIDE OF RWY. IN DOING THIS, I FOUND THERE REALLY WASN'T ENOUGH ROOM TO TURN AROUND BTWN 24L AND 24R. WHILE I WAS TRYING TO GET THE ACFT TURNED AROUND. THE TWR AND THE F/O (A FORMER RADAR CTLR) WERE ARGUING. AFTER I GOT TURNED AROUND FACING S, I TOLD F/O NOT TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE. MY MAIN CONCERN WAS KEEPING THE WDB ON TXWY AND NOT STRIKING TXWY LIGHTS. INCIDENTALLY, TWR USED A LOT MORE TIME IN THIS THAN A 2 MIN HOLD IN POS WOULD HAVE ENTAILED. JUST BECAUSE A TWR SAYS, 'CAUTION, WAKE TURB,' DOES NOT MEAN TURB GOES AWAY.
